The first AVX model came out in 2018, which was not that long ago. Why did Titleist release this specific ball? Basically, it was another option to their tour-level options, just softer with less spin and a lower flight trajectory. That being said, no professional golfer plays it, at least on the main tours. I have been intrigued by this ball for some time now. In the 2024 Titleist AVX golf ball review I will share my findings with you on how the fourth generation of this ball did.
The main points on Titleist’s official website are exceptional distance and extraordinary feel. Wow! That sounds promising, doesn’t it? They say this improved version goes a longer distance, has increased greenside spin and control, a softer feel, and a more piercing flight.
Titleist has put a lot of work into a product that should cater to a niche group of golfers. I am saying that because most golfers prefer the Pro V1 or the Pro V1x.

I am always in favor of more options on the market since we are all unique and balls with different characteristics suit each of us. It is always exciting to review balls for the first time and see what comes out of it. Therefore, without further introduction, let’s get into it.
My Verdict
I will admit it, initially, I was quite skeptical about this ball. However, I enjoyed playing it so much that I decided to make it my ball of choice from now on. That means I am replacing my current ball of choice, the Pro V1. Why did I make that decision? For the most, I liked the feel when hitting it. At 77 It is 10 points lower compressed compared to the Pro V1, which gives that softer touch. Also, I was getting more distance out of it without losing too much spin.
Since I do not have the fastest swing, precisely I believe I am in the mid category, this ball suits me a bit better. There is absolutely nothing I did not like about it and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of trying it.
Who Is This Ball For?
In essence, this ball is for golfers who want to play a premium one but prefer a softer feel. Additionally, you might get a bit more distance out of it, especially if you are not in the fast swing speed category. Its flight is lower and penetrating but it still has enough spin to stop quickly on the green. Because of the lower flight trajectory, players who regularly experience windy conditions might benefit from that. There is enough greenside spin to help control distance when chipping from different distances and lies. Also, it is worth mentioning it comes at a bit cheaper price than the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x. For the right golfers, it provides great value.

On the Green
This ball was nice to strike with the putter. On both short and long putts it just felt soft while making a mellow sound upon contact. I had no issues with distance control no matter how far from the hole. Sometimes I need a few holes for adjustment, but this time that was not the case. Granted, I left it short a few times, but that was all in the 2 to 3-foot range. It held the line nicely on firm putts and dying speed putts. Overall, it provided a positive putting experience.
Around the Green
As promised by Titleist, this ball has enough greenside spin. They also mention that it has more greenside spin compared to the previous version, but since I have not tried that one, I can’t say if that’s the case. Nonetheless, I had a nice experience with it around the green. My go-to chips are bump-and-runs, so I always monitor how balls do there. This one did a great job. Distance control was generally good, except a couple of times when I chipped it past the hole. And yes, it felt soft upon contact.
Approach Shots
As always, I will remind you that I review balls on a par 3 course and for that reason, every shot is an approach shot. It doesn’t come as a surprise that it felt soft when hit. Not that marshmallow softness you can feel with low compression balls, but softer compared to the Pro V1. The two main things I noticed right away were the lower flight and less spin. Again, this is less spin compared to the Pro V1, but still enough to help it stop quickly on the green.
One thing I would single out was the distance. This ball went far compared to the Pro V1 that I usually play (not anymore as of now). Even on strikes that were not clean, I was not losing almost any distance. Also, because of a bit lower spin, the flight was straighter which made the misses less prominent. This brings us to the dispersion which was a bit tighter than usual. I enjoyed hitting this ball a lot and with everything I experienced, I decided it was going in my bag.

Durability
With soft urethane-covered balls durability is always tricky. It is hard to expect that the ball is going to look as new after a round on the course. However, this ball has shown solid durability. There were a few marks and scuffs on it once the round was over, but nothing too concerning. After being hit with irons and wedges on 18 holes, not a bad result at all.
Appearance and Price
Like every Titleist ball, it has the recognizable cursive writing on it with the number. Maybe it is just me, but I find Titleist balls very pleasant to the eye and this one looks as elegant as any. I pay particular attention to the alignment since I align my ball when putting. It has a simple, yet efficient alignment on it with three stripes and the writing “AVX” in the middle one. Overall, it is a nice-looking golf ball. You can get it in white and high optic yellow colors.
In my opinion, its price of 49.99 USD is one of its strong suits. You may think it is still expensive, and you are right. However, it is cheaper than both the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x. For what it provides, it is a decent price since it comes from Titleist who produces the best balls on the market. You know how it goes, if you want to play top-quality balls, you have to pay the price.
