Finally, last year, Vice released a whole lineup of new golf ball variations. The names are the same, except for the Pro Air, which replaced the Pro Soft model. Also, there is no Vice Pro Zero (at least for now). I am starting the Vice balls review series with the new 2024 Vice Pro Plus model. It is the highest-compressed model, with a compression rating of around 100.

The new design includes an increased compression core, inner, and outer mantle to maximize energy transfer.

Vice also states they increased the spin rate with short irons and wedges. Finally, the ball should produce higher ball speeds for mid-high swing speeds.

I am personally intrigued by Vice golf balls. One of the things I like about them is the modern and clean look of all the models. Of course, that is not the key point for a review. I do prioritize course performance, which determines the real ball value. So far, I have seen a lot of positive reviews about the Pro Plus. I am more than excited to start this series of reviews. Let’s start with this one.

Who Is This Ball For?

Plainly said, it is for golfers who want to play a premium ball for a good price. If we go more in-depth, it is for players who want a higher flight trajectory and enough spin across the board. It is not for anyone looking for that marshmallow feel and muted sound.

The high compression means players with faster swing speeds will get the most out of the ball. Don’t get me wrong, even if you swing a bit slower, you can still benefit from it. Also, players who shape shots will like it. That being said, if you fight with slices and hooks, this ball could enhance them.

Finally, it offers amazing value for money. Being a direct-to-consumer brand, Vice sells its balls for a lower price compared to big brand competitors. So, if that is another thing you are looking for, here is a great option. I did not even mention golfers who will love all the different colors it comes in. Of course, if you are into that.

On the Green

This was far from my best putting performance. I left the ball short on all but a couple of long putts I had. Also, the fact that I mostly had longer putts tells my approach game was not the sharpest.

Regardless of the final result, the ball felt nice on every stroke, no matter the putt length. I expected a firmer feel and louder sound for a highly compressed ball. The sound was fairly mellow, and the feel was softer than expected. It gave me decent feedback on every stroke.

Around the Green

As I mentioned above, my approach shots were a bit off today. For that reason, I chipped a fair number of times. Since the first one, I noticed a very good amount of greenside spin the ball produced.

For some reason, I could not adjust my chipping to the ball performance. Mostly, it was coming out too soft, and in combination with the spin, I was leaving it too short. It happened with all types of chips I tried, including bump-and-run and higher trajectory ones.

Again, like with putting, I was getting good feedback on chips. I have a feeling that if I kept playing this ball, it would offer a consistent performance around the greens.

Approach Shots

I review golf balls on a par 3 course, so every shot is an approach shot. I can tell you right away, this ball was giving me great feedback on every shot. Every time I struck it, I knew my clubface position at impact, and I could predict the outcome of the shot right away.

On average, it had a higher flight trajectory, but not as high as some softer two-piece balls. When I needed to lower it, I had no problem manipulating the shots. No matter the shot, it was producing a clicky sound, something that did not bother me. It was slightly more prominent on lower-trajectory shots.

The distance was more than decent on both well-struck shots and mishits. For that matter, I overshot the greens more than once. On a few occasions, spin was the only thing that kept it on the green. Between the higher flight trajectory and a good amount of spin, this ball has more than decent stopping power.

I have mentioned before that I am paying more attention to the feedback balls give on shots. For that reason, I enjoyed hitting this ball quite a bit.

Durability

The cast urethane cover showed great durability. I was more pleasantly surprised to find only a couple of spots with visible scuffs and marks after the round. Honestly, I thought there would be more of them. Granted, I did not hit any tree trunks or branches as I sometimes do, but still impressive.

Appearance and Price

I have already mentioned in the intro how much I like the Vice golf balls’ look. This ball is no exception. I am a big fan of the improved putting alignment, even though it could be a bit thicker. For someone who aligns their putts, I pay attention to that. The Vice logo looks as nice as always on the ball.

Another big change to the whole lineup is the availability of different colors and color patterns with each model. Also, there are special editions that sell out quickly after every release. Golfers seem to love the color variations since some are out of stock, while for others, you have to wait. The Pro Plus comes in white, neon lime, drip lime, drip orange navy, and shade orange yellow colors.

The price for a dozen Pro Plus balls is already lower than all their competitors. That is no surprise, since Vice is primarily a direct-to-consumer brand. For a single dozen balls, you will pay $39.99. But wait, the more you order, the better the price. Three dozen balls will cost you $35.99, and you can get 6 dozen for $32.99. If you prefer shopping in bulk, you won’t resist these deals.

My Verdict

For the performance and durability this ball offers, it is a steal. I have enjoyed testing it, even though it flies a bit too high for my taste. Despite that, I would consider playing it since I can always manipulate shots if needed.

It is an excellent golf ball that gets cheaper the more boxes you buy. When you land on its website, a lot of color options are sold out. That speaks a lot about the good job Vice does. If you think it will suit your game, I recommend trying it.
